In blending and heat transfer processes, a combination of slow-speed scrapers and higher-speed turbine assemblies, rotating in opposite directions, facilitates fast and efficient mixing and heat transfer. This design ensures thorough movement of viscous products throughout the tank, not limited to the impeller area.
Gate and horseshoe agitators are employed for liquids with high viscosities ranging from 10^3 to 10^5 cP, operating at low speeds below 1.5 m/s. Their diameters are typically similar to the tank's diameter. Additional polymer scrapers can be added to prevent localized overheating near heating jackets and the formation of deposits in the tank.
In scenarios involving very viscous liquids, agitators with crossbars intensify the mixing process. Gate and horseshoe agitators may work in conjunction with vortex breakers strategically positioned on the tank walls or upper head to enhance liquid turbulence and streamline mixing.
For enhanced mixing efficiency, gate agitators can be paired with paddle or disk agitators. These systems find application across various industries such as food, pharmaceuticals (ointments), and chemicals, where precise and thorough mixing is essential for product quality and consistency.
